contrary to popular notion/belief.. your body needs and will support you first... baby will get what he/she needs AFTER you......
I gotta tell you.... reading your question... I was near tears... you are one strong lady..... my heart goes out to you.... this is a tough one... I am going to type what I know and put it up... but? check back later tonight/tomorrow 3/18/07... after I check some of my pregnancy weight gain/loss books...?
top of the head info;
you must be feeling so tired.... from the lack of nutrients....
you say though you are having a difficult time holding even water down... but there must be a point of day/night... or some days you can hold something down?
because, you are averaging about a pound lost a week..... yes, it is something to be concerned with.. but not as "bad" as you are feeling/thinking right this minute...
what I think is you need a few things to happen for you;
1) find a food and liquid you can hold down
2) timing counts... a time when you "can" eat/drink
3) stress.... you do not need to know it is there... just think a minute on what you may or may not be going thru.. worries, concerns... situation.... okay, I am showing I am a bit of a ditz telling you this... but, I did not know I was stressed when pregnant with my fourth baby..... it was also the only time I went thru this, first tri... or this severe..... I ended up at a the specialist for stomach/intestine.... hhmmm.. the name of the specialty escapes me... not that they could do much till I could hold food/liquid down.... then? nexium... believe it or not... due to the factors of health risk it is not usually done.. but, that is how "bad" it was
but to continue;
I was pregnant for the fifth time.. just married to my second husband... in court with the first... second started panicking and left new years day....... I had three kids, we were staying with my parents to save..... I worked forty+ hours a week... two children in therapy, because of well stuff with #1.... I would feel almost fine and then nausea hit daily... every meal, snack I prayed "just let it stay down.. even if only long enough to give the baby what she needs.." every meal, snack...drink.. came back up within minutes... it was the worst feeling....... and I was losing average of four pounds a week... I was close to 140 when I got pregnant.... I was 104 when my obgyn saw me... at just about ten and a half weeks... he had known me for years and the issues I have with keeping weight off during pregnancy.. so he was alarmed... concerned.... usually I gain decent in the beginning and toward the end, I had pre-eclampsia with all the others....
what I did; I found one decently healthy food I Could keep down at first..... it turned out to be of all things? slim fast cookie dough bars.... eaten so slowly... one tiny, teeny nibble at a time.... it took me an hour to eat it the first time... but? it stayed down! for a good thirty mintues...lol... it truly is like a comedy routine... looking at it now.. then? I must admit... I cried a lot... so scared for that little baby... she is a very healthy.. very feisty little lady btw....
I am going to go and look some things up... if you get a chance? and can? answer the two questions I have pertaining to this, maybe I can help you to get back on track and have one less worry.... :)
and a happy pregnancy
back to put up "some" information; I hope this (whatever I find later or what another answerer finds) helps....
first; things I have found:
1) Keep food in your stomach, but not too much at once. An empty stomach can make nausea worse. Eat several small meals every day instead of three large meals.
2) For morning nausea, eat a small snack (like crackers) before rising. Allow a few minutes for the snack to digest, then get out of bed slowly.
3) Stay hydrated. Drink a lot of fluids. Try a sports hydration drink, as well as water, broth, or juice.
4) Eat more protein, and cut your fatty food intake.
5) Avoid smells and foods that make you feel nauseated. Citrus juice, milk, coffee, and caffeinated tea commonly make nausea worse.
6) Avoid iron supplements, which can make nausea worse. These aren't necessary during the first trimester.
Get lots of rest. Stress and fatigue can make morning sickness worse

The following are safe, proven treatments for morning sickness. However, few women gain complete relief from morning sickness treatment. Taking ginger or doxylamine is most likely to effectively curb nausea and vomiting.
A) Doxylamine and vitamin B6 (formerly Bendectin), taken according to your health professional's recommendation, is a safe and proven treatment for morning sickness.
B) Ginger, taken regularly as a powder in a capsule, grated fresh into hot water for a tea, or in syrup or crystallized form, can significantly relieve morning sickness after a few days of treatment.
C) Vitamin B6 and B12, taken regularly according to your health professional's recommendation, can reduce nausea and vomiting.
this last one I am not overly sure of.. I know it worked for a lot of friends.. never me.. may be because I never found the "P6" properly? copied form source though;
D) Acupressure, firmly placed on the P6 point (the inner side of your arm, in line with your middle finger and one-sixth of the way between your wrist and elbow), relieves nausea for some women.

I noticed in your edit (thank you for taking time to add that info btw) you say you can keep what I think was bottle water, in small amounts down....... that is good... do your best to swallow any amount a little every minute or two even all day and night.... keep reminding yourself that even though it is making you ill, and you may not keep it down, that your little angel, your little trooper needs you to keep going... and push yourself that extra sip.. extra nibble... you say you were able time to time to keep tea and/or toasts... that is good too... I always drink rasberry tea, it is just over all good for all things relating to this, at times with nausea as well.... I also indulge in my earl grey with a little lemon or straight when nauseous..since you know the bottled water is almost all you can handle? maybe you could boil the bottled water for tea, or use it to try some juices? an idea... you may have tried, in which case I am sorry for just rehashing what you have tried....
I know you probably have tried some of these, maybe all.... I am going to make a couple of suggestionsand ask you to at least "try" one or more over the next day or two here next; before I go and "hunt" some more....
keep crackers, dry cereal, or whatever else will not spoil over night right there in your night stand.... anytime you are not sleeping... have a piece of one in hand.. an idea that I just had? suck on small bites of it? you could try ice chips too, maybe? make them fromt he same bottled water?
since you are already stuck in bed.. make the most of it.. and stop stressing or worrying about all the things you "should, could, must" be doing? stress, as I said is a huge hinder to so much... and we never notice it until it causes a bigger issue....
get paper, pencils... books to read... puzzles.. I absolutely LOVE sudoku.....keeps me too occupied to "worry".... I spend a lot of time up at nights "stuck" holding babies rocking... nursing...lol.. so I have armed myself with pencils, paper, books, and reading lamps... calculator on nights I am doing bills and budgets....
I make lists of things to do when I am able.... and do a lot of doodling instead of bills/budgets, just between us.... ;)
ask a relative or friend to come by certain times daily... have a slew of them lined up if need be... to help out with cleaning, laundry, mundane stuff on surface.. really? they are there to "chit chat" sometimes if you have yourself distracted enough you are able to nibble away a cracker or half a slice of toast before you notice.... it might work... and it involves others....before you balk at asking for help, before you say "I could not impose on a regular or daily basis"... think on this? if you knew a friend or family member were going thru the same thing you would feel helpless and want to take the pain away, help out... and if all it took was you going straightening a room or two.. dusting... and sitting and having tea and chit-chatting about everything going on with everyone you knew or did not know....? I am sure you would be there trying to help out....
that time of day you are able to hold down.. early afternoon? midmorning? make sure you have a variety if possible of things appetizing, healthy, and have the plate next to you with the same; keep a piece in hand and work on it till you have it in you..... a little at a time... don't think of the larger picture, just the piece of puzzle you have in hand....
don't overwhelm yourself with getting the most calories, or the very best... if you like pears and celery? try just a plate of those cut up at first.. not much in calorie or minerals? but, it is a start.... and if you just nibble a little off and suck on it.. chew it... get it down slowly...
also try taking your vitamin around the same time.. even if you get nothing in you except that and water? it helps baby and mommy!
okay one other thing for you to try, that I know you are doing... so this is just a reminder really.....
-deep, slow breaths in and out to calm when you feel the nausea....
-remind yourself that even the littlest bit is helping and better than none...
-take one day, one hour, or even one minute at a time...and praise yourself.... you are doing great!! :)
- when you are tired sleep.... you burn less for starters... but also, every pregnant women feels "extra" tired in the beginning of pregnancy and at the end overwhelmingly tired... so it is normal.... so is the sickness... the reason yours is is sensitivity... we all gain "extra" sensitive senses during pregnancy..... which is one reason women used to be considered "frail" during this time and confined..... but you/we are not! it takes a lot to be able to do what you are doing...
-when you are restless? pull out paper, pencil or puzzles< word, numbers, or actual puzzles even.. whatever activity you enjoy... another favorite of mine? coloring, drawing, reading comics.... lol.. yes, I am a 37yr old child deep down ;> lol
but they keep me from dwelling on things I can not do anything about right that minute... which is all you really want to do.... increases boredom and clock watching when you are idle...
- when you can hold more down.. small meals all day.... for the children I do the six smaller meals almost... and for myself, I have somehow adopted it in a round about way... I believe it is considered healthier as well... but for me the big meals still nauseate me at times.... a little at a time... one nibble to one bite... to one piece.. to two... equal a small meal at times....
I am going to get some books on pregnancy, complications and extreme nausea now.... I will add to this more of whatever I can in the am.....
thank you again for taking time out to at least read this.. and I hope it helps"
auntietawnie replied: "I was dieting before my pregnancy and started eating better once I found out I was pregnant because I knew that the baby was going to drain me. I have a daughter already so I knew.. Since Feb. 12 I have lost a total of 10lbs. I talked to the doctor about it, and he told me that I need to cut my meals to 6 small meals a day and some kind of snack once or twice a day as well.. He said that it should help with my nausea and vomiting, and I should start to gain weight. It may not be noticable at first but every pound I can manage to put on means that I am getting what I need. Talk to your doctor as well and see about changing your prenatal that could be part of it. The first one I was on made me so sick to my stomach the thought of food made me get sick. I do hope this passes for you soon and you can start to eat again...."
